Make your coffee table your own oasis. Blend function and style with these simple tips.

The most important thing to keep in mind when decorating any space is to use items that spark joy. This method works for ANY STYLE. Keep in mind your favorite colors and the things that make you smile and work with what you have!
1.) Make a blueprint foundation
2.) Use a book stack to vary height
3.) Make a home base for items that move
4.) Bring in some nature and whimsy
5.) It’s ok to have practical items!
1.) Make a foundation or anchor point. This is the spot that pulls all of your decor together and gives you a blueprint on where you are putting your items.
Options include:
-fabric like doilies or embroidery
-Trays
My go to is a tray so that I can easily move everything when we need to clear it for fun family activities like board games or coloring.
2.) Add a Book stack!
Stack a few of your favs. Vary the size, subject and color! This gives some height to the design. Throw in some books that represent your likes like travel, hobbies or history. Books with colorful photos or illustrations are great for paging through.

3.) Items that move NEED a home.
Coasters and remotes are less likely to get lost if they always have a home base. You can use so many things for this one! I recently used a vintage planter to give the room a pop of

Use your creativity here! I prefer something long and shallow but whatever you have can work. You can even place this basket on top of the book stack to vary the height.
4.) Add some greenery and a touch of whimsy
Greenery. Bring that nature indoors!
-You can place faux greenery in a cup, planter or pitcher
-Use your favorite house plant (don’t forget a saucer underneath) and make sure the plant gets enough light on a coffee table.
-Fresh florals in a bud vase always add so much joy!
Personal touch. Add something that makes YOU smile.
Maybe it’s a little souvenir you brought back from a trip, something your favorite person gave to you, or something related to your hobby.
Candles. What’s more whimsical than candlelight? Battery operated candles are my go to and bring so much charm to any coffee table. You can even do some battery operated taper candles or scented candle in a glass jar!
5.) It’s ok to have practical items!
Your home is your space and the place that should make you happy. Don’t feel the need to keep things completely aesthetic. You can keep the items you need handy on here. I always have sanitizer and/or tissues during the winter season. Don’t be afraid to add these practical necessities.
Vary the placement of your items. Stack things on the books. Keep the smaller objects in the front and the taller objects in the back. Move things around until they make you happy.
The most important part, at the end of the day are you happy with it? Do the items make you smile? Then you did it!
