Rare advertising match box holder and spent match or ashtray from one of the largest matchmakers in the 19th century in London, Bryant & May. The company was founded in 1843 by Quakers William Bryant and Francis May. The body of the piece is a glossy black with gold lettering that reads Bryant & May’s “BRYMAY” Safety Matches. The piece in the middle would have held BryMay match box.
This piece is in fair condition considering it’s been in the ground for over 100 years. Please note the chip on the one side. This item has been dug up from an English Trash Heap (sometimes referred to as a midden) where treasure hunters search for Victorian waste.
Very rare piece to find this side of the pond!
