In Victorian times, inkwells were used once and discard. So it makes sense they didn’t spend a lot of time manufacturing them. These little glass bottles have bubbles, imperfections and some have a sheared top. Instead of taking the time to apply a top that is smooth and round they would just break the glass off leaving a sharp edge.
Each one of these inkwells has been dug up from a Victorian Trash heap in England. They are my favorite thing to place in a windowsill as a bud vase.
