Antique Scavo Murano Glass Amphora Vase in Bronze Stand

Hand made in Italy, Murano glass was often brought home by travelers as a souvenir. This glass is made in the “Scavo” style which translates to excavated. It was frosted to create the look of ancient glass that has been dug up.

These vases are reminiscent of the amphora style. Amphora vases were ancient Greek and Roman handled vases used for storing liquids. They are easily recognizable by their handles and narrow neck and long oval shaped body. Amphora vases were a popular style of Murano glass.

The base for these beautiful vases has been crafted out of bronze. It’s got wonderful little handles and beautiful claw feet.

Due to the metal being an alloy of copper, there is heavy verdigris and patina throughout. This forms naturally on bronze, brass and copper pieces. It’s like what you see on the Statue of Liberty! It’s one of the ways you know this is a true piece of history.

I am unable to trace this to an exact maker but you can be sure it is a rare piece of decor that will add color and charm to your home.
