Ironstone lidded pot and base. “Bloater Paste” was a mixture of smoked herring ground up and covered with a layer of clarified butter. Apparently it was the perfect snack to smear on toast in Victorian England.
This specific pot came from a Victorian English trash heap. Used and discarded, it’s been in the ground for over one hundred years. Treasure hunters scour England to find these pits and dig up over 100 year old treasures. English advertising pieces are highly collectible and snippets of another era in time!
This specific piece has crazing, stains, chips and cracks and flakes from being buried for over 100 years. It can be rare to find a the base of the pot AND the lid! So this one is extra special.
