Exquisite large Khatamkari Marquetry photo frame

This large frame is made in the Persian Khatamkari Marquetry style. This form of art consists of creating a mosaic of different wood and bone materials. To create the star shapes you see here, thin strips of different species of wood and bone are laid together to create a geometric shape on the cross section. Thin slices of the ends are taken revealing the shape. The shapes are applied to boxes, frames, tables and other decor and then lacquered. These pieces are true works of art and incredibly detailed. 

Entire frame measures 14” long x 11.5” wide
