This ironstone advertising pot would have held bloaters paste.
What’s bloater paste you ask? It’s smoked herring that was ground up and spread on toasts and bread.
In the late 1800’s these pastes were a staple in British Victorian diet. The jars and pots from different companies all had different advertising.
Now treasure hunters dig up this pots from English Victorian trash heaps. These glimpses of the past are highly collectible.
*Take note this jar has rust staining and crazing. I feel it adds to the beauty and history of this item.
Measures 2 3/4” tall by 1.5” wide
