This listing is a Fortnum & Mason Potted Meat lid with base. Fortnum & Mason Ltd, was a British department store located at 182 & 183 Piccadilly, London. Notice the weird marking on the numbers as if it was retouched by hand. The lid is labeled “Potted Meat” and features the royal coat of arms.  Fortnum & Mason was founded in 1707 and is famous for its luxury food items.

This piece dates to the late 1800’s. Potted meats were ground meats with herbs and a layer of clarified butter. The meats would be spread on breads for a quick and filling meal. They potted beef, chicken, ham, and fish. Yum 🤣

This piece has been dug up from an English trash heap. It has staining, crazing and chips. Note how there is a flaw in the address. Almost like it was painted after the fact, making this treasure even better!

Decorating your home with vintage means you are choosing to decorate with history and charm. It’s also the most sustainable way to decorate. You are keeping old items out of the landfill and saving resources and human labor used in the manufacturing of new home decor.

Each item in my boutique is hand picked by me. I take pride in building collections that are rich with color, history and charm. With Finches and Ferns, you can choose decor both intentionally and sustainably.
